Night Shot of the Bridge on Simcoe Street Slip

One of the most interesting light displays on Queens Quay belongs to the bridge that crosses the Simcoe Street Slip ( Marina 4 ). It is located just behind the Simco Wave deck between Lower Simcoe Street & Reese Street.

Construction Update

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR QUEENS QUAY:
*** Fall 2012 to Spring 2013

Queens Quay Revitalization

Special Construction Notice: Change in Traffic Operations Starting November 5

On Monday, November 5, traffic on Queens Quay will move to one-way westbound-only between Bay St. and Lower Spadina Ave. to enable construction for the revitalization of Queens Quay.  All north-south streets will remain open and eastbound traffic will be rerouted to Lake Shore Blvd./Harbour St. One-way traffic will be maintained throughout the first stage of construction from Fall 2012 through Spring 2013.

During the first stage of construction, several major utilities and municipal services will be upgraded and the TTC corridor will be rebuilt.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Motor Vehicles
There will be two lanes of westbound traffic on Queens Quay between Bay St. and Lower Spadina Ave. – with no eastbound traffic.  Cars traveling eastbound on Queens Quay will be detoured north to Lake Shore Blvd./Harbour St. at Lower Spadina Ave. Eastbound traffic will resume after Bay St.   Access will be maintained to all driveways and to north-south streets.

Two travel lanes will be maintained although lane closures may be required in certain areas.  Travel lanes will move between the north and south sides of the streets as required for construction. Traffic signage will help vehicles navigate the area.

TTC
The 509 Harbourfront replacement bus will continue to operate westbound on Queens Quay through the construction area. Eastbound buses will be diverted via Lake Shore Blvd./Harbour St.

Westbound Service:  Buses from Union (Bay/Front) to Exhibition loop will operate regular routing serving all westbound stops on Queens Quay (although stops may be moved slightly around the construction area.)

Eastbound Service: From Exhibition loop, buses will run east on Fleet St. and then divert south to Fort York and east to Lake Shore Blvd./Harbour St. serving stops at: Stadium Rd., Bathurst St., Dan Leckie Way, Lower Spadina Ave., Simcoe St., and Bay St. where buses will continue north to Union Station. Due to traffic operations on Lake Shore Blvd., it is not possible to have a transit stop at Rees St. Passengers in that area will be required to board the bus (one block away) at either Lower Spadina Ave. or at Simcoe St.  Click here for TTC routing information.

Cyclists
The detour bike route – an asphalt trail located in the boulevard area on the south side of Lake Shore Blvd. between Lower Spadina Ave. and York St. – will enable cyclists to bypass most of the construction area. Cyclists may use this route for either eastbound or westbound travel. To access the detour route from the east, ride north along the diagonal path through the parkette just before York St. (at the signalized intersection at Queens Quay/55 Harbour Square). From the west, access the detour route by riding north along Lower Spadina Ave. At the eastern end of the detour route, cyclists traveling further east on Queens Quay must ride south along the diagonal path to the signalized intersection at Queens Quay/55 Harbour Square and walk along the southside for approximately 150 metres to Bay St. where eastbound travel resumes. Westbound cyclists who choose to ride alongside vehicular traffic through the construction zone will be guided by appropriate signage.  There will also be signage for cyclists on the detour route.

Pedestrians
Access will be maintained at all times on the north and south side of the street. When work is occurring on the sidewalk, safe passageways will be set-up to help pedestrians avoid construction.

Toronto Marathon 2011 - Notice

The date for the Toronto Marathon this year is Sunday May 15th, 2011. For anyone coming into the area there will be major delays from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

An interactive map can be found here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2171491

Below is the memo that local residence received in the mail over the Easter Long weekend. Unfortunately as of the time they sent the notice out they had still not put any info on their website about the road closures. If they do the same as previous years then the southbound lanes of Queens Quay will be closed from Stadium Road to York Street.

Dear Resident or Business:

Please be advised that the 17th annual Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon runs through your neighbourhood on Sunday May 15th, 2011. A lane restriction will be in effect and some intersections will be closed to traffic from 8:00am to approximately 3:00pm. As well, cheering stations with music will be active from 8:30am.

Please join us on the route to cheer and support the runners in this world-class event which benefits many organizations and celebrates Toronto as participants from over 50 countries experience the city on foot. Detailed road closure information is available on the website or for more information, please call 416-920-3466.

We thank you for your support and apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

The goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon.
